Dr. Moise studies the psychology of individuals who experience physical illness. In a study supported by our foundation grant, she examined the psychological distress and coping behaviors of New York Health Care workers during the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Why study this condition?

What did Dr. Natalie Moise find?
In a study that surveyed 657 health care workers during the peak of inpatient admissions for COVID-19 infection (April 9-April 24, 2020), Dr. Moise found that psychological symptoms were common in this population. Fifty-seven percent of individuals suffered from acute stress, 48% from depression and 33% from anxiety. Sixty one percent of subjects reported an increased sense of meaning/purpose since the epidemic outbreak. The most common coping behavior was physical activity/exercise (59%). Thirty three percent of healthcare workers accessed either an individual therapist or online self-guided therapy.
