“Sex, Gender and Epigenetics: From Molecule to Bedside” is the first in a series of symposia focusing on the most important topics in contemporary biomedicine and technology.
We have organized this meeting at the invitation of Italy’s Fondazione Internazionale Menarini, which has created this major new initiative to foster its educational mission.
Each symposium featured international panels of world-class experts and was hosted in Florence, Italy. The proceedings represented a 21st-century overview of each of the topics chosen and published both online and in printed form.
Twenty-three expert scholars from around the world, including Nobel laureate in Chemistry Doctor Aaron Ciechanover, participated in this first symposium, May 12-14. 2022.
It considered the function, mechanisms and relationship of epigenetic processes to the normal physiology of men and women as well as the sex-specific experience of disease. Our program emphasized the clinical relevance of how the genome is epigenetically modified by the environment and how some of those modifications are transmitted to future generations. A focus on epigenetics for the prevention, detection and treatment of disease will be an important component of our discussions.
We welcomed you to this inaugural symposium, the first in a landmark series formulated to present comprehensive overviews of the most important issues in 21st century medicine and technology.
