Our Goals

The primary goal of our foundation is to support the work of young scholars from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health in their research of gender-specific differences. In 2021 the University of Melbourne (Australia) and the University of Padua (Italy) became the first international institutions to receive grants thanks to the support of our benefactors and donors.

The Scientific and Medical Community

Internationally, the Foundation works within a well-organized network of gender-specific scientists and institutions under the umbrella of the International Society for Gender Medicine.  We have important links with the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, the Rabin Hospital in Israel, and the Charité in Germany as well as centers in Vienna, Seoul, Tokyo, and Chiba Province, Japan.

Dr. Legato has been the honorary president of the Congresses on Gender-Specific Medicine of Vienna and Stockholm, as well as of the Foundation Meeting of the Israel Society for Gender-Based Medicine and the 5th International Congress of Gender Medicine both in Tel Aviv. She was the keynote speaker at a conference honoring the 10th Anniversary of the Center for Gender Medicine at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden. She was also the keynote speaker at the Organization for the Study of Sex Differences’ Sixth Annual Meeting.

In collaboration with the Menarini Foundation, Dr. Legato chaired Sex, Gender and Epigenetics: From Molecule to Bedside in Florence, Italy held in the Spring of 2022. This inaugural symposium hosted thirty of the world’s leading scholars and researchers on the subject of epigenetics for the prevention, detection, and treatment of disease.
